BOOKS
This is a collection of some books I’ve designed over the years. Some of them I’ve edited myself, in addition to designing the interior layout and the cover.
HERMANN ZAPF
Hermann Zapf was a noted type designer. He is remembered as being the one who designed many popular fonts that we commonly use today like Zapfino, Optima, and Palatino. Also, having an extensive knowledge of electrical engineering, he developed a computer typesetting program that would later provide the basis for what we know today as Adobe InDesign.
Here is a short book I edited and designed about his life and accomplishments. The type is set in Palatino, one of Zapf’s more popular fonts.
WOLFF OLINS SHOWCASE
Wolff Olins is a branding agency based in London. They have achieved notoriety in the world of design due to some of their innovative (if even controversial), high-profile projects - including the Tate Museum branding (and later rebrand), the 2012 Olympics logo and the AOL rebrand in 2009.
This is a book I edited and designed showcasing some of their past notable projects.
THE BOURNE SERIES
The original 3 books in the Bourne series, written by Robert Ludlum, are considered classics, and of course were famously adapted to film in the early 2000’s. However, most publishers have not done their covers justice, neither by providing any sort of consistency nor designing them to stand out on the shelf.
Here is my take on the series - designing with the intention on keeping the covers consistent, conveying the anxious tone of the story itself, with bold colors and imagery to catch the eyes of shoppers in the bookstore.
LANDMARK PAPER SWATCHBOOK
For the uninitiated, paper swatch books are a valuable resource for graphic designers and printers. They help designers find the right sort of paper for their projects. In order to stand out from the competition, paper companies will usually give their swatch books a strong visual identity based on a concept related to their guiding principles as a company.
This is a concept for a swatch book I designed for a fictional paper company. The visual identity of the book is based on national landmarks to convey the ideas of strength, timelessness, and reliability.
The visuals of the book were inspired by the old National Parks posters, as seen in the paper cutouts and illustrations, coupled with vivid photography.
